Competition & Judging
First and second round judges in the Win in China - Smith Business Plan Competition will be members of the 'Win in China' and Smith community and include faculty and staff.
The final round judges will include representatives of venture capital firms from the United States and China that are focused on the Chinese market.
Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Feasibility of the business plan
Management's ability to execute
The First Round:
A two-page executive summary in English must be submitted at the time of registration. Summaries that exceed two pages will be disqualified. The first round of judging is based entirely upon the team's executive summary. Each summary will be scored on the seven components listed above. Registration ends on January 1, 2007. Judges will review entire business plan during the second round.
The Second Round:
All second round competitors will be notified by February 15, 2007. A full business plan of no more than 25 pages must be submitted by March 30, 2007.
The Finals Round:
All finalists will be notified by April 16, 2007. It is expected that each finalist will be present in China for the final round presentations. Each finalist will make a 15-minute presentation including a 10-minute question and answer period following the presentation.
The final round judges will decide the winners. Decisions will be based upon the defined criteria as well as the ability to respond to questions posed by the judges. Judges will also determine the awards based on their confidence in the management team's ability to implement the business plan described. Awards will be distributed at the networking reception following the competition. All decisions are final. The finals will be held in June 2007 at a location to be determined.
Cash prizes will total $50,000 awarded to the top three winning teams.
1st prize: $25,000
2nd prize: $15,000
3rd prize: $10,000
Grand prizes will be awarded to the top eight teams. One team member from each grand prize winning team will be awarded a two-week, all expenses paid trip to the Smith School's Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship in the United States for training with Smith's world-class professors. The training will focus on entrepreneurship and will include individual coaching, specialized courses and presentations, and visits to local science parks and incubators.
